  1. Not #1 again this week but still doing good. I kind of wonder if the success of SWID caused the other two singles to rise this week?

  2. I want Perfect Boy and I want it now!

  3. Looks like maybe the people who bought "Sleep When I'm Dead" went and bought the other 2 available singles while they were in the store, at least in the US.

  4. It looks like hopefully the momentum is starting to build for the band, fingers crossed the album will be well promoted and that they have someone working the PR market for them, geez I'd do it for a free copy of the new album in advance.

  5. What's wrong with people?? Those singles SUCK!! People are just stupid for buying them! I wasn't born but the last good single of The Cure was Inbetween Days.

  6. Seriously now... because just to be clear, I was being ironic... No kidding...

It's great to see the band doing good on the charts!

I think they sold 6 copies in Canada too... I felt it needed to be mentioned.

  7. fantac - c'mon, a little harsh eh? They are good singles!

  8. THREE simultaneous Top Ten singles!
This is a huge achievement for The Cure

  9. Haha april, looks like you just got fantacked!

All 3 in the top 10, niceee.

  10. Three in the top ten ~ well deserved!!!!

  11. it's kind of sad, but i was talking to a friend yesterday about the Cure - and they were saying they used to love them & had no idea they had new stuff out - looks like it's up to us hardcore fans to make up for the mile wide holes in the promotion and get all these sleeping fans on board

  12. Ginge, the exact same thing happened to me the other day. A friend of mine really got into the 2004 album and then checked out their earlier stuff. I recently asked her if she had the new singles and had no idea what I was on about.

Like I said in the "traction" topic, I blame the 4 year album span (among other things). It's too big to keep casual fans interested in a band, especially when the band themselves barely bother to promote their return to anyone outside of their hardcore fanbase.

  13. Consecration!

    I've been "verbed"!

  14. I wonder if this means they've finally broken the 50 barrier in number of times played in the US :)

    ReplyDelete
  15. Yeah, I really wanted them to break the 4-years mold, this time. I wanted a double album for 2007, the twentieth anniversary of Kiss Me X3.
Oh well. Now all I hope for is they don't install a 5-years mold.

  16. I would much rather wait the 4 years inbetween albums than be subject to music that is ground out like a factory mill to satisfy the masses.
Creating music is an art form that is forced into a business model. You can't rush the artistic process.
I believe Robert's strict adherance to follow his muse and not give in to the pressure of the corporate pimps is a beautiful thing.
He follows his vision of The Cure and sometimes pisses off people in the process but for the greater good of his musical vision. It is not an easy task.

  17. I could buy into the argument that it takes four years to produce a magnificent album and that you can't rush art or Robert Smith's vision.

Then I suddenly remember it took four years to put out "The Cure".

  18. Glad to see the success, despite lack of airplay!

  20. The band Julien-K is saying on there myspace side, that they're remixing Sleep when i'm dead together with My Chemical Romance. Not sure if this is going to be the remix for Hypnagogic States???

  21. "Cure Remix with Gerard Way

We just started a remix of the Cure's new single "Sleep When I'm Dead" with Gerard of My Chem. It has to be turned in Monday so expect to hear it very soon.
All the proceeds of the sale of this single will be going to Amnesty International."

This is what they're saying in their blog.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Hmmmmm! Moontear, I think you found something!!! The Monday deadline sounds right on. But Amnesty International? I wonder if the charity has changed or if they are in addition to IRC?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Or perhaps they just figured that the proceeds would automatically be going to Robert's favorite organization?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Dammit nooooooooooo! Keep MCR AWAY from the Cure! If there's an MCR remix on this EP I am not buying it. I will donate $1.99 and a pint of blood to IRC instead.

  25. That's some nice info right there.

And by 4 years between albums, I want to add that I wish in a way that Robert and Co. did take 4 years to make an album... (not that it would necessarily make for a better album)...What I mean it's I don't think for a second that he takes those 4 years. He sure didn't start working on The Cure right after Bloodflowers.

He takes some time off, does other project, which is all fine and dandy, but my greedy self wish he would take less time off and start working like he used to in the eighties...

  26. I wonder if things are different now that he's on a different label than he used to be. Maybe they pushed him to releasing them more frequently and not letting him branch out as much. I dunno. Most of the earlier albums were less than 40 minutes long. Then Kiss Me X 3 happened and they put out longer records, not to mention more complete b-sides by the time of The Top or so. For the untitled album the b-sides were better than most of the songs on the album. I guess Robert is still putting out a lot of music, he just has trouble putting records together.

I dunno, I'm rambling, I just don't fault him for taking a little longer if he wants to get it right. As long as I love the music he's given me I can't complain, and these singles are "da bomb" in my book.

  27. Yeah, those singles are actually very good. I feel this album is going to be the best thing since Swiss cheese.
    ...I mean since Wish, probably.
(I do enjoy the following albums, but... you know...)

  28. Perfect Boy sample is up on www.thecure.com

I love it, stunning guitars. Best of the 4 singles for fucking sure!!! :D

  29. What she said *points to DJ Scribbles pointing at disk 4 of join the dots*

  30. Oh Snap! The Perfect Boy sounds like an orgasm to my ears! The bass, guitar and drums coming in, love it!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I love the sound of Perfect Boy so far! See folks, admit it... you are enjoying the long, drawn out wait for the album. :^P

    ReplyDelete
  32. Oh by branching out above I don't mean The Cure didn't "branch out". I mean Robert couldn't sing on other albums, like on The Glove. I wouldn't change a thing about the old albums.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Jeez, moontear. You're a wealth of information today. Thanks!

A Perfect Boy is sounding soooo good. OMG! I seriously want this song now now now....

    ReplyDelete
  34. oooooooooh, i LIKE that sample.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Hmm. Tasty. Can't wait to get home to listen to it a little louder.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Even though salescharts are slanted, there is no radio play to shout about, no videos through the traditional channels... it's pretty neat to have 3 simultaneous top 10s. Would be great to have 4.....

    ReplyDelete
  37. just goes to show the cure dont need no stinkin airplay to get sales! and im betting a perfect boy will reach the top 10 as well.

i would LOVE to hear Cranes and 65dos mix some songs. interpol and mogwai as well.

    ReplyDelete
  38. 01. The Only One [???]
    02. Freaskshow [65dos]
    03. Sleep When I'm Dead [MCR]
    04. The Perfect Boy [Interpol]

    Calling it now....

    ReplyDelete
  39. Well he said there will be different versions. So maybe there will be more than 4 different remixers, and hopefully a cd without the MCR remix.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Maybe they have sended requests out to different people to remix the songs and after monday deadline they'll decide which ones are the best and to include on the EP. Or different EPs with all the remixes. I don't know... I'd love to see Mogwai doing a remix for The Cure. The Perfect Boy could fit them.

  41. i am so proud that the cure is ALL OVER that TOP FUCKING TEN LIST!!!

    WOOOHOOOO!!!

and damn sure that the perfect boy will be too. we just need to keep the other 3 in there so that ALL FOUR SINGLES will be in the top ten at once!!!

so we need to buy extra singles peeps! buy some for your friends, families, everyone should have a copy!! :D

THE CURE DOMINATES THE CHARTS ONCE AGAIN!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Congratulations to The Cure! I'm Happy to see all 3 singles in The Top 10 US Hot Single Sales Chart. It will be way cool when The Perfect Boy comes out and The Cure can get maybe 4 singles into the Top 10! That would be unbelievable if it happens & I think it will!
