Only One review

The Washington Post Express has a nice review of The Only One.
(Thanks again to Kate)

  1. Ironic that reviewers usually seem to talk about The Cure's "overlooked" pop side, as though they are the only ones who have noticed, when that's basically the only side of the band that most people have ever heard. Last show I went to, there weren't gaggles of primping fake-tanned girls screaming for "The Drowning Man" or "A Short Term Effect."

  3. LOL David and YWP.

Ya know, The Only One finally grew on me. After seeing it live four times now, I get it. It's not the best Cure pop song by any means - EOTW owns its ass, as do earlier Cure pop songs - but it's delicious all the same. The words that seemed cheesy to me at first now acquire a new depth. And the music, though a bit too Cure-derivative, is still pretty tasty in its way. Good Cure-pop without being fantastic.

    Freakshow, on the other hand...

  5. Nice review, thanks for finding it Kate.

Fake tanned girls-POY, LS & JIH are the best Cure Songs Ever. I just don't get this Faith Stuff, are you sure it's The Cure singing up there?

Freakshow is so Fucking Freaky but in a Good Way!!!

  6. YWP: I am manic for FS! I don't have a hard copy of it yet so I just listen to it on my computer. I am dying to blast it from my stereo!

  7. cat---Get a hard copy ASAP!!! I've been blasting it away in my car & home stereo non stop!!!

  8. CK: Well, I pre-ordered the damn thing like a FOOL! Pre-ordering is the stupidest concept EVER, cuz it's not like you get the copy any quicker - and indeed it takes longer!

So I am hesitant to pay twice for it... but my local record shop DOES carry it, so hmmmmmmmm....

You're urgin' me on... not good, as I am weak-willed when it comes to Cure stuff...

  9. That IS a nice review. I wonder how most people are familiar with the Cure's darker, supposedly depressing side, if they've only heard the singles, though. I assume if they've heard the albums properly, they'd fall in love with the music. Maybe that's not always so...

  10. cat--Oh cat it's a tough call. Wait till it comes in the mail or buy it at the store today. I'd most likely buy it in the store & just have 2 copies in case I wear one out playing it non-stop!!!!!!! LOL!!! Hope it comes in soon for you.

I ordered it on the 11th from the Ideal Copy and got it on the 14th. They are fast & ship ASAP. I never pre-order since I know it takes longer for some reason. Makes no sense but it does???
