Official lyrics for Only One / NY Trip

The official lyrics have been posted at the official site. And it really IS "Monkeys on the track". : )

  1. Oh I LOVE Oh I LOVE Oh I LOVE
WHAT YOU DO TO MY BONES
    WHEN YOU SLIDE ME OFF
    AND SLIP ME HOME

Can Robert be anymore explicit? LOL. It's Dr. Seuss meets erotica!

Ny Trip lyrics are rather trippy, like the song.

  2. Oh good! Robert's doing drugs again!!!

  3. I'm not that big of a fan for NY Trip. I think it's good but lacks some structure.

  4. I think that's exactly why it's good...

  5. Hmmm I think I'm in the minority when it comes to NY Trip. I like it, but I'm glad its a B-Side.

If the chorus was played a few more times I think it would worked better for me.

  6. The best kind of songs are the ones where they don't repeat the same chorus over and over and over. NY Trip reminds me of Wendy Time a lot.

  7. Being in the minority isn't exactly wrong though;)....
That song somehow reminds me of Babble/Out of mind...don't ask me to explain!!

  8. Freakshow reminds me of Wendy Time as well.

Can't wait to hear the studio version of that song. The lyrics are hard to make out at the live shows.

  9. For me the last great single was JUST SAY YES !!!! and this didnt see its release (except for promos)....shame on this stupid recordcompanies. I am very sure it would have been a big hit.

  10. JUST SAY YES???? i hope you're kidding

  11. JSY made me chagrined to be a Cure fan, and I don't cavalierly toss words like that around. JSY was a puke-inducing song that should have been burned alive at the stake.

On the other hand, Cut Here was an amazing song that merits more notice that it will ever get.

It's beyond me why Robert doesn't include Cut Here in the sets - along with every other awesome but neglected Cure song.

Zach, those were my thoughts exactly! :)

  13. Just say oui! Si! Sim! Da! Ja! Yow! Igen! Kylla!
Hardly RS's best lyrics i say....

  14. Wow, I missed those surreal lyrics! I thought all Robert could write anymore was super obvious stuff. This makes me really happy.

Ever since Bloodflowers everything was really literal and straightforward ... I've been missing the bizarre and playful side of the band, and with these words and Freakshow, I think it's back.

  15. Just Say Thank-God-It's-Not-In-The-Setlists!

I wish they would play Cut Here though. Such a great song. I was at the gym a couple of weeks ago and had my iPod on and the acoustic version of that came on. And there I am, trying to hold back the tears while surrounded by all these big muscle guys. Love that song!

I'm still undecided on NY Trip, but I'm pretty sure I love it. The lyrics make it even better for me. Nostalgic. I also think the lack of structure is a good thing.

  16. Anyone got a top 5 most neglected cure song list? If Burn isn't on it though you're not a Cure fan lol.

  17. i just fainted. i'd just like you all to know these new songs are about me. what? you didn't get the memo?

top 5 most neglected cure song list? well...that's MOST cure songs, innit?

  18. I do not get the comparison of The Only One and High, other than both being pure care-free pop. Actually, The Only One is closer to A Letter Elise, since both songs use the A E F# D chord progression. While High follows C# B A B progression.

  19. Want ( i think its great!)
    Jupite Crash (Cure spirit)
    Fear of ghosts
    Burn
    How Beautiful you are
    All I want
    The Big Hand
    Kyoto Song
    Dressing Up
    Piggy in the mirror (rocks!)

  21. Someone should ask Simon's daughter Lily about the official lyrics to some of these songs, as she apparently knows the words to Sleep When I'm Dead.

  22. Here they are:

    Sleep when I'm dead
    Sleep when I'm dead
    Sleep when I'm dead
    Sleep when I'm dead
    Sleep when I'm dead
    Sleep when I'm dead
    Sleep when I'm dead
    Sleep when I'm dead
    Sleep when I'm dead
    Sleep when I'm dead
    Sleep when I'm dead
    Sleep when I'm dead
    Sleep when I'm dead
    Sleep when I'm dead
    Sleep when I'm dead
    Sleep when I'm dead
    Sleep when I'm dead
    Sleep when I'm dead
    Sleep when I'm dead
    Sleep when I'm dead
    Sleep when I'm dead
    Sleep when I'm dead

  23. clockwise, I'm being serious.

  24. But..but...so am I. :-(

Shawn, sorry - I really don't know Lily. Does someone around these parts know her well enough to ask her?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Well, she and Eden are on MySpace, and I know that they respond to at least some of the messages that they're sent, as a few people on a Cure message board to which I belong have corresponded with them.

  26. Eden is a big sweetie. :) A very nice and funny guy - and he's a good guitar player, too!

  27. Are YOU GUYS on drugs???!!!!??!

Cut Here is possibly one of the worst songs EVER! Just Say Yes is a better song, but NOT the official single version with Saffron yelping all over it. Check out the Acoustic Hits version - a wee glimspe of what it would have been like with Saffron. It's reet good.

Anyway, I agree with tracebrazenshade - with the likes of Freakshow it would appear that the band is getting back to being, er, well, a bit freakier, edgier. It reminds me on The 13th from Wild Mood Swings, but 100 times better for the increase in pace and the lack of brass. It's a bit less self-aware than tracks like The Only One.

Can't wait to hear the NEW new songs. Though I do think I'll be listening to Sleep When I'm Dead on repeat as soon as an official recording is available.

    Stay off the drugs!

  28. No, no, he needs to start taking them again! Look at all of the stuff that he did during the '80s, especially the first half.

  29. sunflies: astute comment regarding the edgier material and the more "self-aware" new single. i agree wholeheartedly, which is why i hate the only one but like the rest. the rest of the songs don't sound merely re-heated cure; they sound like the signature cure sound modernized and a bit more evolved. maybe not RADICALLY different, but different enough to keep me interested. i can't get perfect boy out of my head! it's generic rock that works because of robert's wailing vocals. i hope and pray (to the non-existent gods) the studio version is as soaringly good. but anyway - i like freakshow too, and i like that it's quirky funky pop in that wms/kmkmkm kinda way. and abink is a lush ballad ala distint and bloodflowers, and sleep when i'm dead is post-punk juicyness. and ny trip is trippy. so yeah, i like the new songs, barring the only one, a LOT for the fact that they are not mere facsimiles of past cure.

  30. mmmmmmm....no guys the worst song ever is: AIRLOCK

    ReplyDelete
  31. I'd have to agree that Just Say Yes is well up there as the worst Cure track. But I don't think it's entirely Robert's fault; Saffron (or whatever the heck she's called) is irrating beyond belief.

And although I LOVE NY Trip, I too, am glad it's a B-Side. With it side by side to The Only One, I'd say it's by far the weaker of the two.
